More Here than Meets the Eye

Not just for the eye, this is mind candy: evocative, provocative, fascinating, marvelous.

"Really?" says Prickles. Yes, really. Admit it, you agree. "Well," she says, "perhaps I don't entirely disagree. But it's startling to hear you say this. What's got into you?" Gumption. What it takes to recognize I'm really good at this stuff and inform the world. I'm about to take my light from under the bushel. "Sounds like a case of gumption, all right," says Prickles. "Hope it survives all the battering it's bound to get - all the misunderstanding, indifference, inattention and even disparagement you can probably count on."

I believe I can handle it. As I grow older it becomes ever easier to be brave and persistent - it becomes more a question of energy resources available. Fortunately, patience, a critical component of persistence, is not much of an energy drain if you have a talent for it and I do. I'm also counting on my two other native talents, good manners and clear communication, to help grease the wheels of this enterprise.

"Well, the best of luck with it," says Prickles, not insincerely. Thanks, I'm counting on it. I've been lucky (or, to put it more precisely: subconsciously opportunistic) most of my life. In any case, whatever the outcome, I am sure it will turn out to be a surprise and an education. I'm looking forward to it.
